The Battle for Lordaeron

Oh, I know, this is old news, but I think the scenario still deserves a post on it’s own on my blog. It’s easy to “miss out” on the details of it, as one can risk going into it with a little “Let’s get to BfA already!”, and while I slowly make my way to 120, I thought it’d be nice to get these shots out there. (Edit: Update! Just hit 120!)

I will let them stand alone to tell the story.

Though I went into this scenario with sadness (since I felt the story leading up to it was not well handled), I think that the scenario itself is extremely well made.

I did it several times to get the best shots, and track down all the Night Elves I could find, to help the race feel more present in this entire storyline.

The battle scene at night using the Inky Black Potion, where Blight is claiming the lives of so many Alliance soldiers, was particularly tough to get right – I wanted to capture Alunaria’s expression to reflect on how fast it was spreading – and how important it was to hold ones breath and go on.

I hope all of you are enjoying yourself in Battle for Azeroth, no matter what keeps you busy – and I hope to be back soon with a few (hah) shots from Stormsong Valley πŸ™‚

Ande’thoras-ethil to all of you, with a heartfelt thank you for all the great blog posts on Battle for Azeroth content already, helping me get an idea of what awaits πŸ™‚

  1. A great reminder of something that is not long ago, but it feels like it was. I wonder if that feeling of mine is because it was on the whole a really sad stage between expansions? Speaking of my own view, and also I think I missed all pre-expansion patches since the one preceeding Wrath.

    1. Aw yes. I generally liked the pre expansion events a lot πŸ™‚ But you are right, this does feel long ago already. Maybe also because we have little “faction war” going on in Kul Tiras?

      1. That supposed faction war… so we were supposed to get riled up. But many in horde dislike the own leadership. So much noise and even one of the Horde’s heroes in Alliance prison. And somehow nothing happened after this. Destroying of two main cities, after that story is about lost fleets and what not. Dwarves could get drunk and fall asleep for less!

    1. Thank you so much πŸ™‚ I guessed it would take me about a month, and I was right! Yes, the place looks absolutely fantastic at night, I agree.

  2. I definitely think this scenario deserves all the attention it can get. Probably one of the most epic moments in the expansion thus far. I played it on the horde side, and towards the beginning of the scenario Saurfang is giving a speech in the courtyard of Undercity, getting everyone ampted up to go out and fight. Once he finishes, everyone charges through the main gates, and the Alliance army expands out in front of your vision. It’s an incredibly intimidating and epic moment. Sooo cool. I wish I could’ve seen the big diorama of the battle at Blizzcon last year.

Also on the subject of the Horde side, if you haven’t done it yet there’s a point where you’re in the stockades (sorry for minor spoilers). If you look to your right in the first room you enter, there’s a cage with a human named Kazul inside. There’s a hogger costume draped on a barrel next to the cage. This is a reference to Kaz winning 1st place with her Hogger cosplay at Blizzcon last year. πŸ™‚ She co-hosts the Worgens Howl podcast with her husband. It was soooo much fun listening to them go through that experience. πŸ˜€ One of the most inspiring stories I’ve heard to date.

I’ve ran this scenario a total of 2 times so far. Once on my warrior and once on my boosted horde toon (a feral druid).

Seeing Tirisfall Glades completely destroyed when you first land as an Alliance is a pretty powerful moment. Of all the previous pvp moments in the game, very few compare to that kind of devastation.

It’s been so cool seeing all of the new model/animation work they’ve done the last two expansions being pushed to the limit in these new BfA battles. Everything came together so well and looks so amazing.

That Horde azerite war machine was excellent. I was only able to appreciate it fully on my second run through, since I was so caught up in the action the first time.

I still can’t believe they released a 2nd fully-rendered cinematic taking place here. They’ve never done anything of that scale before. That was a powerful message that helped everyone through that difficult time after Teldrassil.

Nice use of that Inky black potion. I did get some myself but I always forget to use them.

Thanks for putting this together. I definitely enjoyed running through this twice, and getting your perspective always helps me appreciate the beauty of it all even more.

Gratz on 120! I felt a bit rushed to get there myself since I raid Uldir on Saturdays, but I still had plenty of fun with it and did a bit of exploring on the side as I went. Speaking of exploring, the Worgen’s Howl podcast did an event last Wednesday that I was fortunate enough to attend. We started the evening with the goal of finding the Baa’l battle pet, which was a secret that has been available since BfA launched. In order to get this little black and red goat demon, you have to explore these 13 secret places that are scattered throughout Kul Tiras and Zandalar. It was basically a scavenger hunt. It was a ton of fun, and we ended up spending about 4 hours finishing the whole thing. πŸ˜› I’ll link the WoWhead guide if you’re interested in more information.

Happy Brewfest btw! Gonna be hard to remember it’s going on with all the crazy BfA stuff happening. πŸ˜€ I’ll have to drop by at some point.

Did you catch the latest Ion Hazzikostas video? Some good info on the next patch.

Wheww, that was a lot. Really need to work on spreading these responses out evenly, instead of posting everything at once. See you around. πŸ™‚

    1. Wow, hi Zeshio! Thanks for your in depth comment, it was super nice to hear from you πŸ™‚

Oh, I have not done the Horde bit of the scenario. That does sound very cool. Did you manage to take a screenshot of it?
I know, me too, that diorama was amazing.

Ooh, I see. I don’t mind spoilers on the Horde side! I was wondering where that Hogger costume-honorable mention went! I saw it on Wowhead sometime ago – and was wondering if it was a quest in the future or something. Neat! That costume was fantastic. I wasn’t aware of who hosts that podcast, I imagine it’s a treat to listen to. πŸ™‚

I also like the little tribute to the one that won the contest with his bard music (Jay the Tavern Bard) I loved that.

Yes, even something as small as a new pose for an NPC means a lot to me. Such a joy.

Sorry, I am a bit unsure what you refer to here with the β€œI still can’t believe they released a 2nd fully-rendered cinematic taking place here.” ?

Thank you for appreciating it πŸ™‚ And congrats on 120 to you too! Oh, I want to get that goat pet so much, sounds like good fun to do it with the Worgen’s Howl podcast. You need to upgrade Uuna somehow, right? I guess I’ll add it to my To Do List in my head πŸ™‚

Awww, can you believe, it has been a year since our Brewfest story? Happy Brewfest to you too πŸ™‚ Yeah, I’m afraid, this time around, I haven’t got the chance to visit it as much as last year. But, next year, I am sure I will be there.

Oh I had no seen the video with Ion yet, thanks for the link πŸ™‚

Haha, don’t worry, a comment this length is only a joy for me when it’s of that quality, so keep β€˜em comin’! πŸ˜‰ Have a joyful day, Zeshio πŸ™‚

      1. This screenshot doesn’t really do it justice, but here’s one.

Awesome! I’ll have to check out Jay in-game. Didn’t know he got an in-game tribute as well

By the 2nd fully-rendered cinematic I meant “Old Soldier” on youtube here:

I’m not sure about Uuna. We just collected all the pebbles and made sure war mode was turned on and the very end, and we seemed fine. Someone in the raid did have Uuna, so maybe that helped? I’m not certain.

      2. Wow, that does look very immersive! With my imagination, it does do it justice, I understand what you mean πŸ™‚

Oh, you do that, it’s so sweet, I liked that song by Jay a lot.

Ahhh, right Old Soldier, I thought I missed a cinematic.

Right, I heard that just one has to have Uuna upgraded and be near by for it to work indeed. I’ve not looked into this thing yet, but I will eventually πŸ™‚
