Healers and Addons – A hand, please?

My go-to favorite healing raid frame Addon has long been in need of love, but now, after over 10 years of using it, it appears to have been abandoned and completely broke down in 8.0.

So. The time has come to to move on, browse, and get comfortable and a lot of muscle memory before Battle for Azeroth. (Are we there yet?)

I realize it’s the holiday season, but maybe just a few of you have time to share which Addons, you can’t live without, in particular those, that would be handy for HoT tracking? Without taking up my entire screen space. Easy to configure?

I tried the standard Blizzard raid frames and that just isn’t for me at all. I wanted to play with a minimum amount of Addons, but some seem impossible to be without!

I’d appreciate that so much. Thanks a lot in advance and happy holidays, everyone πŸ™‚

  1. Hey Alunaria!

I know you said stock isn’t for you, which is what I’ve always opted for as a healer… simple mouseover macros and standard green bars… KEEP THEM FILLED AHHH!!!!

I do, however, also use the addon “Tell Me When” to keep myself apprised of spells, trinkets, or other abilities that are coming off cooldown. I keep them small, just little icons that pop up when I can cast it again so that I’m ready to roll if the damage output demands it.

Others that I know use full strings that they’ve pulled from those far more skilled with the tool than I am, but I generally set up my own little configuration in about an hour and then I’m good to go for most of the expansion! Woo!

    1. Hey! Thanks for your input and stopping by πŸ™‚ Oooh, right, Tell me when! Thank you for the reminder, it got removed in my overhaul a while back, totally forgot about it. I sometimes miss a CD, so it’s super handy.

Ah yeah, I read about the pulling full strings. Sneaky!

  2. Grid2 has been my go-to for healing frames for a long time. Still works in 8.0.1.

Vuhdo is decent but I always felt like it was getting in the way and couldn’t really wrap my head around its configuration. It’s less a healer addon and more a unit frame replacement module than anything, IMO. Not using it, I don’t know if it’s still alive.

If you want to replace the stock unit frame, Shadowed Unit Frames is what I’ve been using. It’s still working in 8.0.1.

    Clique still works, as well.

    1. Thank you for the recommendation, Grimmtooth, good to see you are still around πŸ™‚ I’ll give that a go too, both of them. Which healer do you play the most?

Oh, Shadowed Unit Frames looks very neat. I used to have some kind of addon to display my character’s frame different, but I lost track…Thanks again πŸ™‚

      1. My healing main is my disco priest. Gotta love Smite.

It’s funny about SUF – the vanilla unit frames will actually let you move them around now, so a lot of what I get from SUF is baked in. As usual, though there are one or two things that aren’t, such as the ability to suppress the raid frames (after all, I have Grid!) and stuff like that. In that regard, Vuhdo actually replaces ALL the frames in a useful way. There’s really a lot of room for experimentation. Which is not something your fellow raiders will want to hear πŸ™‚

      2. Ah yes, I used to play a Disc Priest during WotlK end game days. Good fun. But it recieved quite a overhaul since then, I think, right?

Ah, that is a big improvement. Haha, you are right, that’s probably not the first thing they want to hear before a pull; “I’m just doing an experiment..!” πŸ™‚

  3. Hey!

I use tukui and I use the default interface to heal. I know this is not the best but is the one I like most. Hope you’ll find the addons you’re looking for.

See you and have an awesome day!

    1. Hey Marthis πŸ™‚ Thank you for your input! Tukui; is that like a full overhaul of the interface, or?

Thanks a lot, I wish you an awesome day as well πŸ™‚

      1. Absolutely. My left mouse button is Rejuvenation and I can click on each player on the addon frames to give it to them.
That way, I can watch the game and not spend ALL of my time tunneling on healing!

  4. Healer addons are always so personal- everyone will tell you what they use is best because it’s what works best for them. 😊
For me, I’ve used vuhdo for years now and will never look back. It does replace the default frames. It’s designed so that you use mouse buttons to click heals in to raid frames. You can customize as much or as little as you like. By default it shows boss buffs and debuffs, which is great. It can track your hots and other peoples’ hots… it’s amazing.
Also, you can import profiles, so if you like the look of someone else’s set up you can copy it and import it. Wago.io has a whole section of vuhdo profiles for all the different classes.
Anyways, that’s my two cents. My best piece of advice is to try a few things and see what works for you.

    1. Hey Cinder, good to see you πŸ™‚ Thank you for your recommendation. You are right, it is very personal. That mouse buttons to click heals into raid frames sounds very neat. Importing a profile, too. The amount of time I have spent on customizing…
Thank you πŸ™‚ I will give a few a try, see what I like best!

  5. I’m a Grid + Clique devotee — partly because I was too lazy to want to learn a new system back when Vuhdo first came out — so I was pleased to see Grimm’s comment above that those two addons are still working. I’d removed all addons when the patch came, and I run with so few — Grid + Clique, Quartz, MogIt — that I barely even missed them. Tho not having Grid + Clique meant I ran any dungeons I wanted to run as DPS πŸ˜›

    1. Thanks Kam! Grid, do you mean Grid2, or? I can’t get Grid to work, and it appears abandoned 😦 Clique, clique, is that like, how does it work exactly? I just use mouseover macros for the most parts, but I guess thats more of a hassle?

Not to worry! I was Cat way more often than Tree, on patch days, back when I did dungeons and raids, hah πŸ˜€

      1. I’ve been using just Grid. I knew that there were some aspects of it that were broken, but it functioned well enough for doing non-Mythic dungeons and raiding at the LFR level. When I checked up on it yesterday, I saw that its most recent update was in May 2018.

Clique basically does the mouseover macro thing for you. It allows you to bind spells to your mouse buttons, in combination with keys to modify them. With left, middle, and right buttons and unmodified, + shift, + control, and +alt, that gives me twelve different spells that I can bind, which is usually enough.

      2. Oh alright. Grid won’t show the HoTs as icons since the patch for me. Ah well.

I see, okay. I used to run with Clique for decurse back in Vanilla, but I bet it has changed drastically since then. Sounds like an effective approach you have there, thank you for clarifying πŸ™‚

  6. I swapped from Grid+Clique to Vuhdo a few years back. While I miss all my personal customization, Vuhdo has been easier for me to get back up and running after a major patch like this. I also like that I only have one healing addon to worry about when I’m setting things up or importing profiles on my many alts.

    1. Thanks for your thoughts, Gracie :)Get back up and running after a patch is essential to me. All the time spent on customizing and such. Yeah, the less Addons the better! Thanks again πŸ™‚
